Abdominal Therapy FAQ
What can Abdominal Therapy do for you?
This work brings focus to your belly… a place that may hold unprocessed emotions, tension, and pain. Through gentle massage, your therapist will help release these stressors. With supportive information, you will learn how to encourage healing.
Why you may seek an Abdominal Therapy treatment
There are many reasons you might be looking for help, from soothing digestive troubles, painful periods, fertility support, or relief from prostate or pelvic issues. Abdominal Therapy encourages balance and optimal function in the belly. We offer whole-person support to clients from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles.
What to expect in an Abdominal Therapy treatment
It begins with an exploration of your health history, current circumstances and goals in a virtual meeting, or in-person as part of your first session.
The in-person Abdominal Therapy treatment involves an external massage of your entire abdomen. The diaphragm, digestive and reproductive organs are all addressed. A full treatment also includes your back, hips, and sacrum too.
Massaging these areas systematically and thoroughly, we help optimize circulation… and we’re not just talking about blood. Abdominal Therapy affects all the systems of flow in your body: blood, lymph, nerve conduction, and life force or chi.
Finally, your therapist will teach you how to perform Your Abdominal Massage (YAM) to increase treatment benefits for the long term.
What is YAM?
Early in her professional practice, Dr. Rosita Arvigo recognized the need for clients to continue their healing with their own hands, in their own time, in their own homes.
With this in mind, she developed her unique self-care massage to encourage and empower her clients to take charge of their healing.

Abdominal Massage for Preconception and Fertility Challenges
For those clients looking to conceive in the near future, at least 3 months of Abdominal Therapy is recommended. However, if you’ve already been working to achieve pregnancy it’s never too late to add this therapeutic work to your routine.
Fertility challenges can be difficult. Along with physical issues there may be some strong emotions present. Whether or not emotions come to the surface, I have extensive training in holding a safe therapeutic space for fertility challenge bodywork and support. We will work as a team to determine what might be helpful for you as you navigate the fertility world. Let's talk about how we can help your body prepare the best environment possible to welcome a baby. Abdominal Therapy protocols for fertility challenge are a wonderful complement to fertility treatments. The gentle massage techniques Dr. Rosita Arvigo combined with folk healer techniques learned from Maya healer Don Elijio Panti and herbal midwife Miss Hortense Robinson have brought helpful resources to the people trying to conceive my practice.

Abdominal Massage for Pregnancy

Julia has completed the Advanced Pregnancy Through Postpartum training with the Abdominal Therapy Collective. Trimester-specific techniques are used to promote the pregnant woman's homeostatic response by using massage to increase blood flow and range of motion throughout the pelvic bowl and abdomen. Self-care massage is also taught as an important component of promoting the flow of blood and lymph in and around the belly and pelvis.
Abdominal Therapy combined with Julia’s custom prenatal massage techniques can decrease discomfort and pain, while creating more optimal conditions for a comfortable pregnancy, while giving the baby “more choices” in their position in the uterus.
Here is what midwives have to say about the efficacy of Abdominal Therapy techniques during pregnancy.

Although Your Abdominal Massage is a simple practice and takes only 10 minutes a day, it has profound, lasting effects on your health and well-being. It’s not unusual for clients to report – even years later – that YAM has become an integral part of their daily lives.
